Becoming Our Highest Selves

Becoming Our Highest Selves

There comes a point in many of our lives when we realize how much we’ve been holding ourselves back. We’ve allowed relationships to control us. We’ve let our limiting beliefs dictate the action we took, or didn’t take, in our lives. We didn’t make the changes we knew we needed to make to be healthy and at peace. We didn’t stop the self-destructive habits derailing our happiness. We’ve been perpetuating the toxic thought patterns and addictive behaviors that we know are harming us. We haven’t gotten the help we needed. We have settled on living half a life. We’ve kept ourselves small. We haven’t risen to the challenge of becoming our highest, truest selves.

Becoming who we are meant to be means shedding the destructive and limiting mentalities we’ve adopted about ourselves and our lives. We have to remove all the things we think about ourselves that are negative and self-deprecating. This doesn’t mean we’re perfect – far from it. We have changes we want to implement, traits we want to build or remove in ourselves, habits we want to create and others we want to stop. Self-improvement can’t happen when we’re beating ourselves up with judgment, criticism and negativity, though. Our approach has to be one of love and positivity. We want to push ourselves by lifting ourselves up, not by knocking ourselves down.

Spend time imagining a future version of you that is all the things you aspire to be. Visualize this future you. What are you doing? What does your life look like? How are you feeling? What things are important to you? What patterns have you left behind? What are your self-care methods? What is your spiritual practice? What makes you happy? What do you love about life? All these things will comprise the new self-image you’re creating for yourself. This is the highest, happiest, most authentic version of yourself. With every choice and decision you make, with every habit you continue or discontinue, you’re aspiring to be your highest self. Bring this new self-image to the forefront of your awareness, and let it inform everything you do moving forward. Let it help you choose thoughts that are empowering, uplifting, encouraging and self-loving. Let it help you make better choices for yourself. Let this new self-image help you manifest the life you want for yourself, the life you deserve to live.
