Support National Recovery Month 2019

As a national community, we must all be willing to participate in the battle against drug and alcohol addiction. We are being naive not to believe it’s having a profound effect on our society. That’s exactly the reason we should pay homage to National Recovery Month. While these awareness activities might seem unimportant, they in fact play an important role in the battle against drug addiction. Considering the nation is dealing with an opiate abuse epidemic, then it would seem now is exactly the right time for us all to support national recovery month 2019.

When and What is National Recovery Month?

Every September, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). SAMHSA of the United States Department of Health and Human Services sponsors National Recovery Month. This has been going on since September of 1989.

Each year, SAMHSA assigns a theme for the addiction treatment community to rally around. For 2019, the theme is: Join the Voices for Recovery: Together We Are Stronger. This is very topical at this point, and we need a coordinated effort to help combat growing addiction problems. Throughout the country, government agencies, as well as over 200 non-profit organizations, will be sponsoring events. The goal of these events is to increase awareness about the dangers of addiction to both the addiction sufferer and society.

By showing we all support national recovery month 2019, perhaps we can motivate addiction victims to get help. To help with this process, a number of organizations will also be providing free information and addiction screenings. If we can collectively save lives through awareness, it’s certainly worth the effort to celebrate this cause.
