What to Expect in Drug Addiction Treatment Centers

Knowing when it is time to seek drug addiction counseling can be tricky. You may think you can stop any time you want without professional help. It’s true that some people can successfully quit using drugs on their own. However, this is not possible for everyone with substance use disorder. Withdrawal symptoms can be intense and even dangerous in some cases, so you may want to consider getting treatment at a drug rehab center

For many, the unknown of what to expect in a drug addiction treatment center may prevent them from seeking the help needed. At Bayview Recovery, we ensure clients understand the process and how they can get started on their sober journey. Reach out today to learn more at 855.478.3650.

Getting Started with Treatment for Drug Addiction

It can be very intimidating to enroll in an addiction treatment program if you have never tried one and are unaware of how they work. You more than likely have many questions that you would like answered before you decide to take the leap. Learning more about the process of drug addiction treatment can make you feel more comfortable in getting the treatment you need.

Once you reach out to a drug addiction treatment center, here is how the admissions process may unfold:

  • Meet with a staff member to discuss the admissions process
  • During your initial visit, health professionals will ask about your:
    • Overall health
    • History of substance use
    • Mental health conditions
    • Medications
    • Family and living situation
    • Legal issues, employment
    • Prior treatment programs
  • A medical professional may conduct a physical examination, including blood work, to check your overall health.
  • A treatment plan will be designed specifically for your needs based on your examination results and your responses to the evaluation questions.

How a Drug Rehab Program Works

Each drug addiction treatment center may function a little differently. However, the recovery process may essentially operate in the same way:

  • Detox: It is not easy or recommended to stop using drugs on your own, which is why medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is available to help clients manage withdrawal symptoms. Depending on the severity of the addiction, some people may complete a detox program as either an inpatient or outpatient. For less severe addiction, some clients may be able to go directly to outpatient treatment.
  • Inpatient treatment: Once detox is completed, the next phase may be an inpatient treatment program. While this program usually lasts for 30 days, in severe cases, it may be necessary for clients to remain in the program for up to one year.
  • Outpatient drug rehab center: Some people with family and/or job responsibilities may not be able to commit to a 30-day inpatient program. Therefore, their treatment plan may be recommended to include outpatient treatment services.

No matter the program or services, clients can expect to receive various therapy options to help them recover from drug addiction. A treatment plan may consist of:

  • Medication-assisted treatment program
  • Individual, group, and/or family therapy
  • Extended care program
  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy
  • Art therapy

At Bayview Recovery, we take your health and well-being seriously. Therefore, we will design a treatment plan that best supports your individual needs.
